Entry 5.27.21
As I try to do every day, today I woke up and decided to start a revolution.
The Media Revolution
If you’re reading the blog, you’ve probably experienced some of my produced media be it on Youtube, Soundcloud, or another platform. It is terrible. The audio buzzes, the lighting is shit, and the production value as a whole is just low. I admit that I find this surprising given my nature as a perfectionist. It is just this nature which inspired a revolution and will drive improvement.
First of all, I am a strong believer in media. Whatever project I’m developing or research I’m collecting, I contend that a strong media effort will yield benefits both internally (feedback loops) and externally (brand noise). As I developed this belief, so I invested in my media channels.
I’m past the point of early development, though. These channels attract attention, particularly pointed and direct attention at my person. This realization is a major driver in the revolution. Essentially, I’m going to start putting a bit of effort into my productions so they don’t sound shitty.
The Research Revolution
Research and study pose formidable aspects of my life. Whatever the project may be, you can bet that my efforts are not only directed towards finding and executing a solution but also in the documentation and designed reiteration of that solution. Unfortunately, I claim to contribute to the work log far more than I actually end up collecting my thoughts and contributing.
This is not a matter of ability but a matter of effort. After a day of work I often have notes accumulated across various platforms: notes on my phone, notepad on my desktop, google docs on the laptop, physical notebook, notes in the margin of texts, etc. Gathering them together is not an issue of ability, but rather an issue of laziness.
This revolution is merely a matter of “cleaning up after myself” and organizing each day’s research notes into the master work log rather than leaving information hanging where it will be forgotten. It is imperative that the effort which I invest in researching various topics not be wasted by a failure to record that information. Essentially, I’m going to start putting more effort into collecting and storing research at the end of each day.
The Health Revolution
I am blessed to be a naturally healthy person, which is why I have never really had to watch what I eat or put much effort into staying “in shape”. This hubris has caught up, though, and the metrics agree. Couple this with my historically carefree eating habits and the outlook is grim. Thus, a revolution of both diet and sport.
Despite a dietary freedom there has always been a struggle with eating habits. Having been raised in a relatively healthy home, the habit is maintained to this day: consistently producing dishes sporting fresh fruit and vegetable. A distaste for fast food was learned early on and the genre is avoided. Accordingly, my struggle is not to eat healthier but to eat more sufficiently.
Athletic enterprises stem from rowing team in college. From there cycling and running were next steps, steps which taken eagerly. Today, focus is split between running and weight training. Finding a happy medium between health, time, and my vanity is the issue at hand, an issue which will be handed off to a consultant. Accordingly, my struggle is not to train harder but to find a trainer who understands my goals
The Three Revolutions
Small revolutions count.
